It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of David Hunkele, our long-time co-worker and friend, who died on June 25, 2024, at UPMC Passavant after a serious illness. He was 56.

For nearly two decades, Dave served as a maintenance man for the School Sisters of St. Francis, the former Marian Hall Home, and with Mt. Assisi Place. He was a friendly, colorful member of our personal care community, and his hearty laughter was part of the daily atmosphere here. It was common for Dave to donate flowers, Christmas trees, and raffle items for our special events. He will be missed.

Dave’s family, co-workers, our Residents, and members of the School Sisters of St. Francis and the Sisters of the Holy Spirit attended his funeral mass at on July 1, in our main chapel.

Arrangements were handled by Schellhaas Funeral Home in West View. David is buried in Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Cemetery in Ross Township. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
